Every project is different, but my approach is always the same. I like to take my time, listen carefully, and make sure the planting really suits the space and the people who will use it.<\/p><h3 data-section-id=\"11hlcs9\" data-start=\"607\" data-end=\"625\">How I Got Here<\/h3><p data-start=\"627\" data-end=\"841\">Over the years I\u2019ve worked on quite a few different projects, especially commercial gardens. Some have started from nothing at all, and others have already had planting in place that needed improving or refreshing.<\/p><p data-start=\"843\" data-end=\"1076\">What I\u2019ve learned is that no two gardens are ever the same. The soil, the weather, the surroundings, and the people all play a part. Trends change too, and so do environmental conditions, so I\u2019m always adjusting and learning as I go.<\/p><h3 data-section-id=\"sbds8e\" data-start=\"1078\" data-end=\"1100\">How I Like to Work<\/h3><p data-start=\"1102\" data-end=\"1235\">When I\u2019m working on a planting plan, I like to focus on one project at a time. It helps me give each space the attention it deserves.<\/p><p data-start=\"1237\" data-end=\"1387\">I can easily lose track of time once I\u2019m deep into a plan. I enjoy that part of the process, when everything starts to come together and make sense.\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"1389\" data-end=\"1524\">I\u2019m quite organised in how I work, but I also allow myself room to think creatively. Sometimes ideas appear when you least expect them.<\/p><h3 data-section-id=\"6jty92\" data-start=\"1526\" data-end=\"1552\">My Working Environment<\/h3><p data-start=\"1554\" data-end=\"1655\">I nearly always have music on in the background while I work. It helps me settle into what I\u2019m doing.<\/p><p data-start=\"1657\" data-end=\"1838\">My desk is usually tidy, but my thoughts aren\u2019t always! Designing planting can be a bit like putting together a puzzle, and I enjoy working through the pieces until they feel right.<\/p><h3 data-section-id=\"sz0xaq\" data-start=\"1840\" data-end=\"1867\">What Matters Most to Me<\/h3><p data-start=\"1869\" data-end=\"1968\">The best part of my job is seeing a project grow from the first conversation to the final planting.<\/p><p data-start=\"1970\" data-end=\"2194\">I really enjoy getting to know what a client wants from a space and then helping turn that into something real. Seeing a finished scheme come together, and knowing people will enjoy it for years to come, is very rewarding.<\/p><h3 data-section-id=\"m7hql6\" data-start=\"2196\" data-end=\"2220\">Where I Get My Ideas<\/h3><p data-start=\"2222\" data-end=\"2416\">I\u2019m always looking and learning. I visit RHS gardens like Cliveden and Wisley whenever I can, and I go to garden shows when time allows. I also read quite a lot of gardening books and magazines.<\/p><p data-start=\"2418\" data-end=\"2516\">All of that helps keep my ideas fresh, but I also draw a lot from my past projects and experience.<\/p><h3 data-section-id=\"7yl1ws\" data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2549\">How My Approach Has Changed<\/h3><p data-start=\"2551\" data-end=\"2699\">Earlier on, I felt I had to stick to strict routines to get everything done. Now I know it\u2019s better to slow down and focus on doing things properly.<\/p><p data-start=\"2701\" data-end=\"2818\">I care much more about getting the planting right than getting it done quickly. Good planting takes time and thought.<\/p><p data-start=\"2820\" data-end=\"2972\">I also try to make sure I look after myself outside of work. Spending time with family and getting outdoors helps me stay focused and enjoy what I do.\u00a0<\/p><h3 data-section-id=\"n9xivc\" data-start=\"2974\" data-end=\"2991\">Looking Ahead<\/h3><p data-start=\"2993\" data-end=\"3060\">I\u2019m always learning as I go. Every garden teaches me something new.<\/p><p data-start=\"3062\" data-end=\"3282\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">For me, planting planning isn\u2019t just about choosing plants. It\u2019s about creating spaces that feel calm, natural, and right for the people who use them.
